Festivals Of India - Pandharpur Wari

We have, over the past couple of years, covered major festivals from across the cities in India. But India is not just about the major festivals like Holi, Durga Puja, Ganpati Puja, Pongal and so on. There are smaller festivals, which are themselves quite big, in villages and towns across the country. This time, we decided to showcase one such festival. Wari or Pandharpur Wari is a festival for worshipping Hindu God Vithoba in the state of Maharashtra.

The Pandharpur Wari, pronounced as Vaari, is more of a procession than a festival. The festival takes place in the end of June to the beginning of July which is known as the month of Ashadh and Karthik (November-December).The procession begins from a temple in Pune’s Alamdi and ends in Pandharpur. Palakhis or palanquins carrying the paduka or foot prints of the deity and various saints are carried to the shrines. Some of the notable saints include Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram from the Varkari sect.

The holy site of Pandharpur, the refuge of Lord Vitthal resides on the bank of river Chandra. This is an 800-year-old traditional foot march which lasts for 21 days! The participants comprise of mostly Maharashtrians who are farmers but many people from cities participate as well. The most revered palakhis are Saint Dnyaneshwar's palkhi which leaves from the town of Alandi and Saint Tukaram's which begins at Dehu; both these towns are located in Pune district of Maharashtra.

Sant Tukaram was a 17th century Hindu poet and saint of the Bhakti movement in Maharashtra. A huge number of devotees and followers gather from all parts of the state every year on this time for this festival. Sant Dnyaneshwar who is also known by the names Jnaneshwar, Jnanadeva, Dnyandev or Mauli, was a 13th-century Marathi saint, poet, philosopher and yogi of the Nath Vaishnava tradition. Sant is another word for Saint or holyman. The Palki begins its journey at a temple in Pune on the beats of taal and mrudungas within the temple courtyard.

The procession has two Palkhis leaving from different parts of the state meet at Pandharpur where the festivities are conducted. The procession or the journey is itself full of lively activities such as singing and dancing, playing musical instruments and is a lot of fun to watch as well as participate. On the eleventh day of the first half of the month of Ashadh, the Palkhi reaches Pandharpur .

It is always great to see companies take product feedback seriously and modify their products accordingly? This is always something that the customers and we appreciate. In the smartphone industry, there are very few companies that have matured as well as Honor has. From being your ‘just another Chinese brand’ to being a company that has advanced its products at an affordable, they are definitely a name that we shouldn’t take lightly.

Take for instance the new Honor 20 for example, which produces above par products in the budget section. It builds upon all the shortcomings of the Honor View 20, while getting a few coats of gloss. After using the phone for few days, the improvements in design and overall performance are clearly visible. The Honor N-series have always stood for the 'new' coming to design and cameras, and the Honor 20 breaks boundaries in both of those.
